Smoked Sablefish
(Anaplapomatadae)

Is It Wild or Farmed? Sablefish is wild caught.

Where is it fished? Sablefish is a migratory species that can be found throughout the Northeastern Pacific from Mexico to Alaska, with the highest concentrations in Alaska.

How is it fished? Sablefish is fished commercially primarily through the use of long lines.

Where does The Lobster Place Source it? The Lobster Place procures Smoked Sablefish from Samaki Smoked Fish.

Is it sustainable? Sablefish populations are considered to be abundant and healthy due to sound fisheries management.  Fisheries in Alaska are managed using individual fishing quotas, which assigns a quota to individuals, and seeks to provide ownership of the resource to Alaskan communities providing an incentive to limit overfishing.  In addition, fishing methods employed, such as bottom long lining and pots, have relatively low by-catch
